Tom Brady, as we all know, recently lead the New England Patriots to yet another Super Bowl victory. People all around the world who follow Madden NFL are surely well aware of Brady’s achievements throughout his professional career—chief among them his rallying the Patriots from a 25-point deficit to secure an epic come-from-behind championship victory over the Atlanta Falcons. These achievements have earned Brady a lucrative spot on the cover of one of the most popular games produced by Electronic Arts, Madden NFL 18. But the question will be asked: Is it a good idea for Tom Brady to appear on the cover of this game? After all, what about the so-called “Madden Curse?”
The effects of being featured on the cover of Madden; or, as more commonly and popularly known, the effects of the “Madden Curse.”
Quite simply, the Madden Curse is visited upon the players featured on the cover of Madden over the years. Anyone who has been featured on the cover has been cursed with injuries the following season—even after 20 years of the franchise.
In recent times, as we know, Rob Gronkowski—a teammate of Brady who appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 17—suffered a number of injuries which resulted in him playing in only eight games the following season.
As stated before, this is a sort of curse that has affected every athlete featured on the cover of the Madden NFL series, starting right with Garrison Hearst in 1998 and extending all the way up to Gronkowski after Madden NFL 17.
This year, it seems like the curse is set to plague Brady.
The reaction of the well-known quarterback Tom Brady on the “Madden Curse.”
In a recent interview, Brady was asked to share his views about the “Madden Curse” and, to the world’s surprise, he seemed pretty confident and unmoved by the history and facts about the curse. Brady said that he is not a superstitious athlete, so he is well prepared to take on the challenges that are about to come in the next and ongoing seasons. He also said, “[The curse] doesn’t stand a chance.”
Not only is he ready and prepared to take on his upcoming career challenges, along with the “Madden Curse,” Brady—perhaps the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)—has also said that it’s an honor for him to be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 18. He said in a recent interview, “The Madden NFL 18 cover is a great honor for me.” And don’t think for a second that he’s unaware of the scope of the curse—Brady is an athlete who has also been playing this video game for years, having grown up next to the Electronic Arts headquarters in the Bay area.
